Risperidone

Indications

• For the treatment of schizophrenia
• For the treatment of acute manic or mixed episodes associated with Bipolar Disorder
• For the treatment of irritability associated with autistic disorder

Dosage and Administration

Schizophrenia
Adults: Initial dosing is 2 mg per day. May increase the dose by 1 to 2 mg per day, to a recommended dose of 4 to 8 mg per day. The maximum dose is 16 mg per day.
Adolescents: The initial dose is 0.5 mg once daily. May increase the dose by 0.5 mg or 1 mg per day, to a recommended dose of 3 mg per day. Maximum dose is 6 mg per day.
Bipolar Mania
Adults: The initial dose range is 2-3 mg per day. The dose may be increased in increments of 1
mg per day. Maximum dose is 6 mg per day.
Pediatrics: The initial dose is 0.5 mg once daily. The dose increased in increments of 0.5 mg or 1 mg per day, to the recommended target dose of 1 mg to 2.5 mg per day. Maximum dose is 6 mg per day.
Irritability in autistic disorder
Children and Adolescents: For patients with body weight less than 20 kg, initiate dosing at 0.25 mg per day. For patients with body weight greater than or equal to 20 kg, initiate dosing at 0.5 mg per day. After a minimum of four days, the dose may be increased to the recommended dose of 0.5 mg per day for patients less than 20 kg and 1.0 mg per day for patients greater than or equal to 20 kg. Maximum dose is 3 mg per day.
